Do I need risk assessments for martial arts insurance?

Yes. The underwriter expects clubs and instructors to have suitable and up-to-date risk assessments in place.Your risk assessments should reflect your actual classes, premises, students and activities, including the level of contact and any equipment or weapons used. They should be reviewed regularly and whenever something material changes.A generic risk assessment that does not reflect how your club operates is unlikely to demonstrate that its specific risks have been properly considered.

Can MAGB arrange insurance for a martial arts association?

Yes. MAGB works with martial arts associations, federations and multi-site groups.The arrangement will depend on the number of instructors and members, the activities undertaken and how the association wants its records, certificates and renewals administered.

Do I need separate insurance for a martial arts event?

Accepted Answer

Do not assume that ordinary club or instructor cover automatically extends to a martial arts event.Competitions, tournaments, seminars, fight nights and other events may require specific event liability insurance. Speak to MAGB before the event so that the activities can be considered and the appropriate cover arranged.
